Can Opener

Privacy Policy (Setapp)

Last updated: 14 October 2026

This policy explains what personal data Carrados Limited (we, us) handles when you use Can Opener (the Software) through Setapp, or visit canopener.app. We are the controller of that data under UK and EU data protection law. It applies to the Software as you get it through Setapp. If you bought a licence from us directly, our standard privacy policy applies instead.

The short version

We do not want your personal data. The Software works on your Mac and does not collect, log or send what you do with it. We do not track you, build profiles, show ads, or sell or share data with anyone for their own use. The few exceptions are listed below, and each one is the minimum needed to deliver, support and fix the Software.

What the Software sends

The file types, applications and settings you work with in the Software stay on your Mac. If you turn on sync, your settings are stored in your own iCloud Drive or Dropbox folder, under your account with Apple or Dropbox. We cannot see them. The Software contacts the internet only for these things:

Setapp

Setapp, run by MacPaw Way Ltd., handles your account, payment, licence and updates, and collects data for that under its own privacy policy. Setapp and we are separate controllers: we do not control what Setapp collects, and Setapp does not act for us. Setapp shares some data with us, such as your email address and usage figures for the Software. We use that data only as this policy describes. Where Setapp's terms require us to handle data differently from this policy, we follow them, as long as the law allows.

Email

If you email us, we use your message and address to reply. If we have your email address from Setapp, we may email you about the Software, for example about important changes or new versions. Every such email lets you unsubscribe in one step, and we never send you anything on behalf of anyone else.

Our website

canopener.app uses Umami to count visits. Umami does not use cookies, does not track you across sites, and gives us only totals, such as how many people visited a page and from which country. The website sets no cookies of its own.

Who else handles it

Only the services named above, each acting on our instructions to do one job: bunny.net (website), Sentry (crash reports), Umami (website totals) and our email provider (support email). Some of them are in the United States. Where data leaves the UK or the EU, it is protected by the safeguards the law requires, such as standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision. We may also share data where the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict or stop using it, or send it to you in a portable format. Email support@canopener.app. We will reply within one month. We may keep records the law requires us to keep. For data Setapp holds, contact Setapp, or ask us and we will pass your request on. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or to the data protection authority where you live.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we update this page and the date at the top. If a change means we collect more than this page says, we will tell you before it happens.
